Saturday, July 30 - BLUPOINTE - 11:30am - 2:30pm - NOTE EARLY TIME
Lorna K and her Kombeau - vocal jazz
239 Kearny @ Bush, SF

Guitarist Robin Lewis and I will accompany vocalist Lorna K. This will be right down the alley from Claude Lane. Blupointe is a new bistro and raw bar. We played here last Saturday and they liked it enough to have us back. This is a great place for an urban brunch. More info at citysearch.com

Tuesday, August 2, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Lorna K - jazz vocals
House of Shields
39 New Montgomery
(South of Market, between 2nd and 3rd Streets)
San Francisco, CA
no cover
21 and over

This is a lovely old bar and grill, founded 1908. It's right across from the Palace Hotel and is right by the Montgomery Street BART station. It's an easy place to have an after-work drink if you work downtown. Lorna has been trying out some very different arrangements. If you haven't heard her in a while, you might want to give her a fresh listen. Michael Groh is on electric guitar, and is dropping a lot of rock and blues licks into Lorna's material.

Wed., August 3, 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Lorna K - jazz vocals
Shanghai 1930

http://www.shanghai1930.com/
133 Steuart Street, San Francisco, CA
San Francisco, CA

I've played at Shanghai 1930 many times in the past with Lorna K. Greg Sankovich, the regular pianist in my group, will be with us.

Shanghai 1930 is a beautiful restaurant. The food is top-notch Chinese food and differs from what you get in most Chinese restaurants. We play in the bar, which is quite attractive.

Thursday, August 4, 7:00 to 11:00 PM

Kurt Ribak Trio - Original jazz
Enrico's Sidewalk Cafe
http://www.enricossidewalkcafe.com
504 Broadway at Kearny,
San Francisco, CA 94113
415-982-6223

Robin Lewis will be on guitar and Kevin Mummey on drums. Enrico's is a classic North Beach joint. It's also close to City Lights bookstore (one of the best bookstores ever, period) and a variety of other cafes (including the famed Caffe Trieste), restaurants, and strip clubs. Enrico's is known for its food and its cocktails, especially the mojito and a kumquat caipiroshka (yes, it sounds weird, but it's quite good.)

Friday, August 5, noon to 1 pm PM

Kurt Ribak Quintet - Original jazz
555 California (at Kearny - the old Bank of America building)
San Francisco, CA
free

This will be a rare appearance of my quintet, which will feature Hal Richards on woodwinds and Johannes Mager on trombone. We'll also have Greg Sankovich on keys and Randy Odell on drums. This should be a lot of fun. It's a free outdoor show in the Financial District and is part of the Market Street Association's People in Plazas series.

Friday, August 5, 7:00 to 10:00 PM - and every Friday
Kurt Ribak Trio - Original jazz
Prima Ristorante
http://www.primaristorante.com/
1522 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA
Every Friday, 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
All ages

This is a great gig. The band is really developing - on this gig we regularly get into "the zone," where we feel like something really special is happening with the music. Greg Sankovich will be on piano, with Kevin Mummey on drums - the usual suspects on these gigs. If you haven't heard this lineup you should really check it out - we're getting into some very interesting musical territory.

We will be celebrating our second anniversary at Prima July 8. It's been a great gig for us. If you've meant to come and haven't, please do so. No gig lasts forever.

Tip - to best hear the band you should have drinks in the bar or make a dinner reservation in the bar.

Sat., August 6, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM - two private parties - a busy day!

Sun., August 7, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM - and the first Sunday of every month
Kurt Ribak Trio - Original jazz
Chaya Brasserie
http://www.thechaya.com/
location & info

132 The Embarcadero
San Francisco, CA 94105
(415) 777-8688

Chaya is known for its "Japanese-inspired French cuisine." The food and service are outstanding, they have some very nice wines, and they have some great views of the Bay Bridge. The trio will be me on bass, Greg Sankovich on keyboards, and Tim Solook on drums.

Come check us out - there's not much other jazz happening on a Sunday night, and this is an interesting new version of my band. At Chaya we play a harder-hitting, more driving style than at Prima. Between that and the electronic keyboards Greg brings to Chaya (they have no piano), the band sounds very different here.

Friday, August 12, 7:00 to 10:00 PM - and every Friday

Enrico's Sidewalk Cafe
http://www.enricossidewalkcafe.com
504 Broadway at Kearny,
San Francisco, CA 94113
415-982-6223

Greg Sankovich will be on piano and Kevin Mummey on drums. This is the same trio that has been playing the last two years at Prima in Walnut Creek. If you've wanted to hear the band but Walnut Creek is too far away, you should definitely come by Enrico's, a classic North Beach joint.
