Kurt Ribak - bassist

late December / early January 2006 Gigs

Hey! Where's the site map page?

I am experimenting with a slight revision to the layout of my website. I changed it so that it you type in site map page. I did this because the main purpose of this site is to guide people to my gig listings.

Kurt Ribak Trio CD and Downloads

You can buy the Kurt Ribak Trio CD online at CDBaby, at Musicians Union Local 6, and at Tower Records online. You can also buy the CD at Down Home Music, 10341 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito, CA. Go to my CD page for more info.

You can download the Kurt Ribak Trio recording at emusic.com. We've been getting some attention there - the recording is rating four of five stars. You can do a trial membership for cheap, and recordings are way cheaper to download at emusic than with iTunes.

Radio Interview, profile and bio

Michael Burman, the KCSM-FM announcer, wrote a nice profile of Kurt and the Kurt Ribak Trio CD and personnel. We've also uploaded bios of Kurt, Greg Sankovich, and Tim Solook. The Kurt Ribak Trio CD has enjoyed repeated airplay on KCSM.

Calendar - Upcoming Gigs

NOTE: Gigs are often added, canceled, or rescheduled at the last minute. You are welcome to call or e-mail me to confirm performance dates and times. The gigs below are an incomplete list and do not include private engagements or recording sessions.

Late December / early January Gigs

January promises to be quite a bit slower than December, which is no surprise. More gigs will probably come along, but here's what I know about at present.

Wednesday, Dec. 28, 6:00 to 9:00 PM - and the last Wednesday of every month
Kurt Ribak Trio - Original jazz

http://www.mrcato.com/
3891 Piedmont Ave.
Oakland, CA
510-655-3349

We play the last Wednesday of every month. Cato's is a beer and wine place with a lot of good bar grub as well. Their beer selection is excellent, and you can bring your kids if you wish. Hal Richards will be on woodwinds, with Dave Casini on vibes.

Friday, Dec. 30, 7:00 to 10:00 PM - and every Friday
Kurt Ribak Trio - Original jazz

1522 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA
Every Friday, 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
All ages

Greg Sankovich will be on piano, with Kevin Mummey on drums. Tip - to best hear the band you should have drinks in the bar or make a dinner reservation in the bar.

Sat., Dec. 31, 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM The Kurt Ribak Quartet - Original jazz
Chaya Brasserie
http://www.thechaya.com/
location & info
132 The Embarcadero
San Francisco, CA 94105
(415) 777-8688

Chaya is known for its "Japanese-inspired French cuisine." The food is really remarkably good here - this has got to be one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. Greg Sankovich is on keyboards, Lincoln Adler on tenor and soprano sax and Tim Solook on drums. Tim and Lincoln play together in the jazz-funk group Times 4. This is a special event - if you want to attend, make reservations. Chaya will have a perfect view of the fireworks - last year the fireworks were launched from a barge immediately across from Chaya.

Friday, Jan. 6, 7:00 to 10:00 PM - and every Friday
Kurt Ribak Trio - Original jazz

location & info

132 The Embarcadero
San Francisco, CA 94105
(415) 777-8688

Greg Sankovich will be on piano, with Tim Solook on drums. The food here is exceptional, the bar is great, and the view of the Bay Bridge is unobstructed. This is a great place to hang out on a Sunday night.

Tues., Jan. 10, 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Lorna K - jazz vocals
Shanghai 1930
http://www.shanghai1930.com/
133 Steuart Street, San Francisco, CA
San Francisco, CA

I've played at Shanghai 1930 many times in the past with Lorna K. Shanghai 1930 is a beautiful restaurant. Greg Sankovich, the main pianist in my group, will be on piano. The food is top-notch Chinese food and differs from what you get in most Chinese restaurants.

Kurt Ribak Trio - Original jazz
Mojito
http://mojitosf.com
1337 Grant Avenue between Vallejo and Green St.
San Francisco, CA 94133
(415) 398-1120

Greg Sankovich will be on piano, TBA drums. Mojito is a new place with Cuban food and... mojitos. It is run by John Miles and Alistair Monroe, who also run Sunset Promotions, who put on the North Beach Jazz Festival and the SF Funk Festival.

Friday, Jan. 13, 7:00 to 10:00 PM - and every Friday

1522 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA
Every Friday, 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Andy Ostwald will be on piano, with Kevin Mummey on drums. Andy has played my book pretty often and I really enjoy his interpretation of the tunes - very different from Greg Sankovich's. Both guys bring an awful lot to the music. Tip - to best hear the band you should have drinks in the bar or make a dinner reservation in the bar.

Saturday, Jan. 14, 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM
Kurt Ribak - original jazz
The Albatross
1822 San Pablo Avenue (two blocks north of University, west side of the street)
Berkeley, CA 94710
510-843-2473 (510-THE-BIRD)
http://www.albatrosspub.com/
21 and over
$3.00 Cover charge

The Albatross (aka The Bird) has been around since 1964. Current owners Wendy Halambeck and Linda Zsilavetz did a wonderful job of revitalizing the place without losing the charm it had. There are lots of board games available, lots of room for darts, a nice fireplace in the back, and food. It's a very friendly comfortable place. They now have a hard liquor license, so it is a great place to have a single malt scotch or the like.

Hal Richards will be playing woodwinds on this gig, with Robin Lewis on guitar and Randy Odell on drums.

Friday, Jan. 20, 7:00 to 10:00 PM - and every Friday
