This is a lovely old bar and grill, founded 1908. It's right across from the Palace Hotel and is right by the Montgomery Street BART station. It's an easy place to have an after-work drink if you work downtown. Lorna has been trying out some very different arrangements. If you haven't heard her in a while, you might want to give her a fresh listen. Michael Groh is on electric guitar, and is dropping a lot of rock and blues licks into Lorna's material.

This is a great gig. The band is really developing - on this gig we regularly get into "the zone," where we feel like something really special is happening with the music. Greg Sankovich is on piano.

Chaya Brasserie

location & info

San Francisco, CA 94105

Chaya is known for its "Japanese-inspired French cuisine." The food and service are outstanding, they have some very nice wines, and they have some great views of the Bay Bridge. The trio will be me on bass, Greg Sankovich on keyboards, and Tim Solook on drums.
Come check us out - there's not much other jazz happening on a Sunday night!

Love Motel - jazz
Rasselas
1534 Fillmore near Geary
San Francisco, CA
http://www.rasselasjazzclub.com/Love Motel is back playing every Sunday at the Fillmore Rasselas. I played with Love Motel several times at the old, now closed, Rasselas on California and Divisadero. This band is led by guitarist Jeff Hirano. We played together in Section 8 Project, a local jazz band. I really like Jeff Hirano's tone and ideas - he plays with effects, frequently uses a Steinberger guitar rather than a fat jazz box, and is generally much more of a modernist in his playing. On drums is Tim Vaughan, a fine drummer. We will also have various people sitting in.

This is a great gig. The band is really developing - on this gig we regularly get into "the zone," where we feel like something really special is happening with the music. Andy Ostwald will be on piano, with Kevin Mummey on drums. Andy has a very different style from the regular pianist, Greg Sankovich - but I really love the distinctive voices both musicians bring to the music.
Saturday, March 19, 8:00 PM to 11:00 PMKurt Ribak Trio - Original jazz
Jupiter

across from the Berkeley main BART station

21 and overThis is always a fun gig. Jupiter is a very popular place - they've got an excellent beer selection, food, a patio area, and lots of attractive twentysomethings. It's near the UC campus and is easily accessible by BART. This will be a trio date Greg Sankovich on keyboards.
Please note this show is happening on Jupiter's summer schedule. This means we start at 8 and stop at 11 PM.
Greg Sankovich also plays at Jupiter in the jazz/funk quartetTimes 4. This group can really tear it up. Greg is very much a groove-oriented player, and this band gives him a chance to really work out his rhythm chops.

The usual suspects will be present - me on bass, Kevin Mummey on drums, and Greg Sankovich on piano. This is a really interesting group, in my opinion - Kevin is a remarkable drummer with a subtle, distinctive style.
Sat., March 26, 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM
Lorna K - jazz vocals
Shanghai 1930
http://www.shanghai1930.com/
133 Steuart Street, San Francisco, CA
San Francisco, CAI've played at Shanghai 1930 many times in the past with Lorna K. Greg Sankovich, the regular pianist in my group, will be with us.
Shanghai 1930 is a beautiful restaurant. The food is top-notch Chinese food and differs from what you get in most Chinese restaurants.
Sun., March 27, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

At Chaya we play a harder-hitting, more driving style than at Prima. Between that and the electronic keyboards Greg brings to Chaya (they have no piano), the band sounds very different here.

no coverWe played at Cato's for the first time in many months in March. They liked us and are having us play the last Wednesday of every month. Cato's is a beer and wine place with a lot of good bar grub as well. Their beer selection is excellent, and you can bring your kids if you wish. Hal Richards will be on woodwinds.
