Radio Interview, profile and bio

Michael Burman, the KCSM-FM announcer, wrote a nice profile of Kurt and the Kurt Ribak Trio CD and personnel. We've also uploaded bios of Kurt, Greg Sankovich, and Tim Solook. The Kurt Ribak Trio CD has enjoyed repeated airplay on KCSM.

I've played at Shanghai 1930 many times in the past with Lorna K as well as with my own group. This time I am playing with Charman Duran, a singer / pianist who has her own book of oroginal tunes and specially arranged standards. Bill Belasco is on drums. I play with Bill regularly at Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church, where I often sub for Fred Randolph. Shanghai 1930 is a beautiful restaurant. This time . The food is top-notch Chinese food and differs from what you get in most Chinese restaurants.

Friday, May 5, 7:00 to 10:00 PM - and every Friday
Kurt Ribak Trio - Original jazz
Prima Ristorante
http://www.primaristorante.com/
1522 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA
Every Friday, 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
All ages

Greg Sankovich will be on piano, with Kevin Mummey on drums. I keep on saying this, but it's because I really believe it - this trio has a really interesting, distinctive approach. Greg, Kevin and I have been playing together regualrly for the last three years and it really show. Greg and Kevin are fine musicians, so the group would sound good anyway, but this group really listens well to each other and plays what is happening in the moment rather than simply spewing out licks learned at home.

Tip - to best hear the band you should have drinks in the bar or make a dinner reservation in the bar.

OTHER UPCOMING SHOWS

The Kurt Ribak Trio will be playing from noon to 1:30 PM Sunday, July 2 at the Fillmore St. Jazz Festival in San Francisco. This is the largest free jazz festival on the west coast. We tore it up at the show last year and made a lot of new fans. We plan to do that again.

The Kurt Ribak Trio will play Sunday, July 9 from 5 to about 6:30 PM at First Untied Methodist Church in Pt. Richmond. This will be a great chance to play in a lovely-sounding room. This shoudl be an especially good show.
