Michael Burman, the KCSM-FM announcer, wrote a nice profile of Kurt and the Kurt Ribak Trio CD and personnel. We've also uploaded bios of Kurt, Greg Sankovich, and Tim Solook. The Kurt Ribak Trio CD has enjoyed repeated airplay on KCSM.

SF Weekly Review
21 and over
This gig will feature Greg Sankovich on piano and Tim Solook on drums. This venue is in the old Condor strip club. No more stripping, though. Andrew Jaeger is a New Orleans - style chef who is keeping his New Orleans restaurant running as well.
The food is really good and I really like the staff and management, who have all come from New Orleans. This is a great place to hang out and watch people go by while having a drink, eating some great New Orleans food, and hearing some jazz. This is a place I plan to come to on my own time and my own dime. We started playing here in late August and they have been kind enough to give us a steady gig.

Sun., Nov. 6, 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM
Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church
I'll be playing a service in Moraga. I play at this church regularly, filling in for Fred Randolph, the regular bassist. The service is a contemporary worship service, with contemporary music and arrangements. I'll probably be playing electric bass on this gig. The worship and music director, Stephen Bigger, does a great job and is a good guy. I've also done some recording of Stephen's songs.
Sun., Nov. 6, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM - and the first Sunday of every month

Chaya Brasserie

San Francisco, CA 94105

Here's a shot of the band taken from the bar at Chaya. Tim Solook is on drums. Yep, that's Kurt on bass.
Chaya is known for its "Japanese-inspired French cuisine." The food and service are outstanding, they have some very nice wines, and they have some great views of the Bay Bridge. The trio will be me on bass, Greg Sankovich on keyboards, and Tim Solook on drums.
Come check us out - there's not much other jazz happening on a Sunday night, and this is an interesting new version of my band. At Chaya we play a harder-hitting, more driving style than at Prima. Between that and the electronic keyboards Greg brings to Chaya (they have no piano), the band sounds very different here.

I've played at Shanghai 1930 many times in the past with Lorna K. Shanghai 1930 is a beautiful restaurant. The food is top-notch Chinese food and differs from what you get in most Chinese restaurants. Greg Sankovich, who plays regularly in my trio as well, will be on piano. It's always fun to play with Greg. Chris Ackerman will be on drums.

David Gans - singer/songwriter
Hotel Utah
http://www.hotelutah.com
500 Fourth Street at Bryant
San Francisco, CA 94107
I'll be playing with singer/songwriter David Gans as soon as I can get there from the Andrew Jaeger gig. David is perhaps best known for The Grateful Dead Hour and dead to the world, both radio shows regarding the Grateful Dead, but he's also a talented singer-songwriter. This will be an experimental gig for me, as David is doing a lot of stuff with electronic loops and effects processing, which is a realm I've never really worked in.

The Meters - original lineup - NOT MY GIG
I canceled a gig and am taking the night off to see The Meters at The Fillmore. They are a big influence on me, and they will be playing with the original lineup - Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste on drums, George Porter Jr. on bass, Leo Nocentelli on guitar, and Art Neville on keyboards. I am so excited - I am so looking forward to hearing the original lineup. They were one of the most influential funk bands of the '70s, and one of the most influential bands to come out of New Orleans.
Sunday, Nov. 20, 2:00 PM - not a gig, just a plug
Duke Ellington Society
Ft. Mason Center, Gatehouse
Ft. Mason
San Francisco, CA
My friend Jake will be supplying the Duke Ellington Society with a copy of the movie "Duke on the Road." Provided no gigs interfere, I'll be there taking it in.

I regularly play with Hal in my own group. Here we'll do my tunes, some standards, and maybe some classical stuff. If you live in the South Bay this is an easy way to hear us - besides, the food's good. According to Pasta Pomodoro, they are "conveniently located in the McCarthy Ranch Shopping Center (near Wal-Mart)."
