May 25 at 1 PM Kurt was interviewed on KCSM-FM 91.1 FM by Michael Burman. I got a lot of comments from folks who tuned in. Thanks, everyone! The Kurt Ribak Trio CD has enjoyed repeated airplay on KCSM.
Michael Burman, the KCSM-FM announcer, wrote a nice profile of Kurt and the Kurt Ribak Trio CD and personnel. We've also uploaded bios of Kurt, Greg Sankovich, and Tim Solook.

Tuesday, October 4, - CANCELLED
Lorna K - jazz vocals - CANCELLED
House of Shields - CANCELLED
Lorna K is not at Shields this Tuesday. We will be playing a final show at House of Shields on Tuesday, October 18. Apparently Shields will have rock bands playing later in the evening. Life goes on.
Wed., Oct. 5 - 6 to 9 PM
Hal Richards / Kurt Ribak duo
Pasta Pomodoro
181 Ranch Drive
Milpitas, CA 95035
tel: (408) 582-0160
all ages
free
I regularly play with Hal in my own group. Here we'll do my tunes, some standards, and maybe some classical stuff. If you live in the South Bay this is an easy way to hear us - besides, the food's good. According to Pasta Pomodoro, they are "conveniently located in the McCarthy Ranch Shopping Center (near Wal-Mart)."
Thursday, Oct. 6 - 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM - and every Thursday in October
Kurt Ribak Trio - original jazz
Andrew Jaeger's House of Seafood and Jazz at the Condor
Broadway x. Columbus, SF, CA
This gig will feature Greg Sankovich on piano and Randy Odell on drums. This venue is in the old Condor strip club. No more stripping, though. The giant TVs and sports broadcasts of the most recent incarnation of the Condor, as a sport bar, is also gone. Andrew Jaeger is a New Orleans - style chef who is keeping his New Orleans restaurant running as well.
The food is really good and I really like the staff and management, who have all come from New Orleans. This is a great place to hang out and watch people go by while having a drink, eating some great New Orleans food, and hearing some jazz. This is a place I plan to come to on my own time and my own dime. We started playing here in late August and they have been kind enough to give us a steady gig. We will be here every Thursday in October.
If you come see us, try to stick around for Eddie Zip's band, which come on after us. They are a New Orleans-based band that tear it up. Eddie sings, plays great piano in the New Orleans tradition of Professor Longhair and Dr. John, and his entire band smokes. They play more New orleans R&B - oriented material - real fun stuff.

I've played at Shanghai 1930 many times in the past with Lorna K. Shanghai 1930 is a beautiful restaurant. The food is top-notch Chinese food and differs from what you get in most Chinese restaurants. Greg Sankovich, who plays regularly in my trio as well, will be on piano. It's always fun to play with Greg.

Concert at First United Methodist Church
featuring Rev. Dan Damon, vocalist Sheilani Alix, and others
First United Methodist Church
http://www.pointrichmond.com/methodist/
201 Martina St., Point Richmond, CA
I've played concerts at First United for a few years now. I really like this church. It's a nice, modest church with lovely acoustics. Rev. Dan Damon has written many fine hymns. This concert will feature vocalist Sheilani Alix and others. If you're looking for a spiritual place Christmas Eve, this is a good place to go. All are welcome.
Tuesday, Oct. 18, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM - no longer the final Shields gig
Lorna K - jazz vocals
House of Shields
39 New Montgomery
(South of Market, between 2nd and
3rd Streets)
San Francisco, CA
no cover
21 and over
This is a lovely old bar and grill, founded 1908. It's right across from the Palace Hotel and is right by the Montgomery Street BART station. It's an easy place to have an after-work drink if you work downtown. Lorna has been trying out some very different arrangements. If you haven't heard her in a while, you might want to give her a fresh listen. Michael Groh is on electric guitar, and is dropping a lot of rock and blues licks into Lorna's material.
This looks to be our final Shields gig. They are going to have rock bands playing later at night and ditch the jazz. It's a lovely location, and we've played here a lot of years, but for now, it's over.
UPDATE We were given to understand the gig was ending, but now we have learned the Shields gig will continue after all on the first Tuesdays of every month. It is... the gig that will not die...

Andrew Jaeger's House of Seafood and Jazz at the Condor
Broadway x. Columbus, SF, CAThis gig will feature Greg Sankovich on piano and Fred Harris on drums. Fred has played piano on this gig a couple of times as well. Fred and I played in Faye Carol's band and goes back to my days playing in the house band and Club Deluxe back in the early '90s.

Greg Sankovich will be on piano, with Kevin Mummey on drums - the usual suspects on these gigs. If you haven't heard this lineup you should really check it out - we're getting into some very interesting musical territory.
Tip - to best hear the band you should have drinks in the bar or make a dinner reservation in the bar.
Below are a couple of recent photos of the band, including Randy, Johannes, and Greg.
